Aromatic Use Of Essential Oils With Our Pets

Aromatic use is the most simple way to use oils with your pets.  Animals have a more highly tuned olfactory system than use so it is important to take certain precautions.

Always offer with the lid on, allow your animal space to leave the area/room, only use oils safe to be used with animals and be - aware of oils that should not be used - see my YT video

A dog has 200-300 million scent receptors compared to our 5-6 million making them so much more sensitive.  A horse or cow has somewhere in between.

Olfactory receptors have a direct link to the limbic system, which is the part of the brain that stores emotions and memories.

There are a few ways you can use essential oils aromatically with your pets. Personally, I love having a diffuser in my room, just fill it with water and 3-6 drops of my favourite oil or oils and set on an intermittent setting and see how the mood is changed, and the overall vibe is set. 🤩

No denying Seren loves the Serenity diffusing at night.

Have you experienced smelling a rose, or zesting a lemon? Those little aromatic notes are the essential oils playing with the olfactory system.

I love having a diffuser in my room, just fill it with water and 3-6 drops of my favourite oil or oils and watch how the air is purified, the mood is changed, and the overall vibe is set. 🤩
This is the most gentle way to start to use essential oils and truly one of my favourite ways! When diffusing around pets always use an intermittent setting and allow them to leave the room. Don't use a tea light diffuser - heat alters the delicate structure of the essential oil not to mention the safety aspect with your pet and the toxic elements of candles too.

Be careful about diffusing hot oils as they can irritate the eyes and oils that need to be avoided - see video for more info.

Use an ultrasonic diffuser which only use a small amount of essential oil, and no heat is used to generate the mist in an ultrasonic essential oil diffuser. This method also can act as both a diffuser and a humidifier, a helpful feature if you live in a drier climate. There is very little to no noise associated with ultrasonic diffusers, making them perfect for nighttime use.

You can let them inhale from a closed bottle or pop a drop on their bedding or appropriately diluted to their body.

Lately, I have been loving to diffuse this daily it smells amazing and my dogs love it too.

I want to hear from you, do you have a specific aroma that immediately brings up a memory for you?

That is your limbic system at work and it is the same for our pets - using this odour memory is a great way to enhance the therapeutic benefits of oils - especially useful when supporting anxious or nervous animals
