DDR Prime _ What Is It All About?

DDR Prime is probably my most used blend after Balance - it is a staple for my dogs and I’ve definitely had the benefits of it on more than one occasion.  It is also a blend that has fascinated me and continues to do so as I learn more and benefit more.  I use it with my dogs extensively to support their musculoskeletal system for the 3 with degenerative changes to their musculoskeletal system.

Although I started using it to support the cardiovascular system of my little springer Evie but have continued to incorporated it to support the 2 that struggle with anxiety but also my little dog with bladder issues I use it to support his urinary tract as well .   I am also taking it myself, I currently have tendonopathy in 2 of the tendons of my rotator cuff with impingement and so I am using DDR to support my musculoskeletal system with 3 drops once or twice a day and this blog explains why I am loving this blend

This doTerra proprietary blend - the name stands for Daily DNA Repair is a mix of essential oils that help protect the body against oxidative stress to cellular DNA.* and so supports cellular integrity.  Clove, Thyme, Litsea, and Wild Orange are powerful antioxidants and it also includes Frankincense, Lemongrass, Summer Savory, and Niaouli, which help support a healthy immune response.

Cells are the foundation of all living things. Their growth, replication, and death provide the information for the function of all our body’s systems. As we age, cellular function progressively degrades and this process can be expedited by poor nutrition, lack of exercise, stress, exposure to toxins, and other lifestyle habits. When cellular function is compromised, the normal process of growth and regeneration is altered, negatively impacting all normal and healthy processes.

Antioxidants are key to a healthy body as inflammation is the body's process of fighting against things that harm it, like infections, injuries, and toxins, in an attempt to heal itself. When something damages your cells, your body releases chemicals that trigger a response from your immune system.  Now we often need the inflammatory process to promote healing like with a cut or a break and this response includes the release of antibodies and proteins, as well as increased blood flow to the damaged area. In the case of acute inflammation — like getting a cut on your knee or dealing with a cold — the whole process usually lasts for a few hours or a few days of pain, redness, or swelling.

But when this response lingers it becomes chronic inflammation leaving your body in a constant state of alert and this becomes harmless and leaves a negative impact on your tissues or organs.  But these symptoms can be subtle such as
  • fatigue
  • body pain
  • depression or anxiety
  • gastrointestinal complications (diarrhoea or constipation)
  • weight gain
  • weight loss
  • persistent infections
These symptoms can range from mild to severe and last for several months or years

Now you may have heard of free radicals and wondered what they are these - these are infact an atom with an unpaired electron, and these little things cause inflammation in us and out pets by cellular damage. Chronic inflammation produces lots of free radicals which ultimately create more inflammation. This continuous vicious cycle can damage many systems in the human body.  Antioxidants neutralise the free radicals by giving up some of their own electrons - I liken it to a game of Pac Mac with Pac Man scooping up the little dots.

Eating foods and taking supplements rich in antioxidants can help that significantly.

Antioxidants are also crucial for brain health -brain dervied neurotrophic factor  (BDNF) is key for neuroplasticity which is the capacity of neurons and neural networks in the brain to change their connections and behaviour in response to new information,  This is crucial for maintaining brain health as we age but also supporting mental health and also key for recovery from stroke and also supporting the brain with those who have dementia.

What boosts BDNF is an antioxidant rich diet! So it stands to reason that by adding a blend that provides antioxidants rich oils we can give our diet a little boost.

As I continue to share it and learn about it I find more and more benefits and there's lots of anecdotal evidence if you do a google search as well.  And yes anecdotal is low on the quality of evidence but try it yourself and see if it helps.  I suggest a month and take note, but remember change can be subtle and you may not notice until you stop taking it.

I hope I have explained how using DDR prime makes it easy to boost your intake of antioxidants and added with the oils that are supportive of cellular health you can see how beneficial it could be.  It also comes in a softgel form so it is super convenient to use either in short bursts as I do when I need it or longer term as I am using it for my dogs.

If you do give it a whirl let me know how you find it as I would love to know.

Hi, My 10kg dog is quite hyperactive and anxious. I'm thinking of giving her DDR. I'm already taking it for a while to help me with my endometriosis. Do you think it would help her reduce her anxiouty? How many drops shall I give her per day?

Anxious dogs need a multi-faceted approach - it wouldn't be my first choice - I offer a variety of consultations and anxious dogs are one of my special areas of interest. The most effective way would be to arrange a consultation where we address this in more detail.

Dr Helene Svino; My name is Norm Stitt (Doterra Wellness Advocate) I have used doterra essential oils for over 10 years, I am a 3 time cancer survivor. I have a dog named Ginger that is diabetic and uses insulin twice a day (Vetsulin) I give her 18 units twice a day. I bought a glucose meter to check her sugar levels and I monitor it twice a day. Her sugar levels spike sometimes over 600 on the meter. I got prescription dog food for her, I tried using pet wellbeing blood sugar gold to lower her blood sugar. I was wondering if I should use DDR Prime and Copaiba in veggie caps for her. I'd appreciate any information that would help lower her blood sugar level. Thank you, Norm Stitt US Army Retired (412)378-2209

Hi there, This would need to be addressed in a consultation as I am unable to give advice like this via a comment as it is too complex. Consultations need to be booked via my store.

Thank you for this detailed article! I have a question about Doterra's DDR Prime. I read that it "promotes cell apoptosis"... Do you know if this includes fat cell apoptosis? I ask because I recently had a fat transfer procedure where fat cells were transferred to another part of my body. Fat cell survival is the biggest risk after fat transfers, so triggering fat cell apoptosis would be very bad in my case. My doctor does not know the answer as he doesn't work with essential oils, so I'm turning to others online who have done research like yourself. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Mia -thank you for your comments, I am glad you found it useful. Sorry for the delay in reply. I'd be interested to read where you read about cell apoptosis. There are other oils that potentially could cause fat cell apoptosis but this isn't something I think would occur with DDR Prime - however in a process that may require an inflammatory process to promote healing I would not use it for a period of time. One of my dogs recently had stem cell treatment and I did not use it for 3 weeks. Hope that helps.

Hello I am so glad you found it useful - I do a lot of pet blogs on www.thehealthfuldoctor.com/news although I need to do DDR Prime at some point. For dogs over 10kg 1 drop once to twice a day in food - if under 10kg - half a drop by mixing with FCO and giving 1 drop of that mix. Hope that helps
